Obituary for Belva Mae Logeston (O'Neal)

Belva Mae Logeston, 96, of Mathiston, Mississippi, formerly of Eagle Rock, Virginia, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 14th, 2018 at Vickers Personal Care Home in Mathiston, where she had many friends and blessed caretakers.

She was born Monday, April 25th 1921, in Chaneysville, a daughter of the late Elwood and Rhoda (Imes) O’Neal. On November 27th, 1946 in Cumberland, Maryland, she married Edward H. Logeston who passed away on August 21st, 1996.

She is survived by their son Edward Logeston and his wife Kimberly Logeston of Starkville, Mississippi; their daughter Elaine Mae Bile, of Berkeley, California; two granddaughters, Kaylee Logeston of Warren, Rhode Island and Kathleen Logeston of Cleveland, Mississippi and many loving nieces, nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in passing away by three sisters, Ruth Mountain, Lyda Jay, and Dorothy O’Neal, and two brothers, Ralph O’Neal and Leroy O’Neal.

Mrs. Logeston was a member of the Eagle Rock United Methodist Church, Eagle Rock, Virginia. For many years she lived in Hillsborough, New Jersey and retired there after working as a bookkeeper with John Wiley & Sons Publishers. She retired to Eagle Rock, Virginia with her husband and son in 1983.

Mae spent many of her retirement years walking the lands on her farm in Virginia where she was known to chase off an occasional bear. She loved to bake cherry pies, cookies, and johnnycakes during the holiday season and was accomplished in crocheting, knitting, and many other arts and crafts, having once crocheted a 10,000 knot table cloth and created many angels and drummer boys for the Logeston family Christmas tree.

She will be remembered by her family, friends and caregivers for her welcoming smile and kind ways.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 1:00 pm in Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, with Rev. Curtis Bryant officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 am until the hour of service and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. She will be buried next to her beloved husband at Everett Cemetery.
