Sandra attended Bedford High School, Morgantown High School and also studied at Allegany College of Maryland, Bedford County Campus to extend her career as a mental health worker.
After her marriage in 1957, she and her husband Tom operated their family owned dairy farms in West Virginia and Ohio until 1980. Always an ideal farmwife, Sandy helped with the many chores around the farm as well as keeping a lovely home for her family.
After moving back to her hometown of Bedford in 1980, she met her future husband Ivan and the couple set up residence in Everett where they both lived out the remaining years of their lives.
It was during this time that Sandy helped establish the Bedford County Covered Bridge Society serving as one of the four founding members and past president for many years. With her help, the society became part of the Bedford County government, recovering, preserving and maintaining 14 bridges throughout the county, including her most cherished bridge, the Herline Covered Bridge.
A vivacious and outgoing person with many interests, Sandy had a number of hobbies, but none more beloved than her work with the covered bridge society. With a soft spot in her heart for animals of all kinds, Sandy always had a pet, usually a rescued animal that no one else would have. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Sandy will be remembered for showering her family with the love and attention that made them feel special and wanted.
